R. Tiglao Asks Is The Billion-Peso Gov't Firm Under the Control of Bayan Muna Lawyer

Veteran columnist and political analyst Rigoberto "Bobi" Tiglao wrote another controversial expose about the billion-peso government-run firm which is allegedly under the control of Bayan Muna Lawyer.

According to Tiglao, despite the popularity of Pres. Rody Duterte among the government public officials, his popularity and power is not enough, particularly in the case of the huge Coconut Industry Investment Fund-Oil Mills Group (CIIF-OMG), which just five years ago had revenues from its coconut oil milling operations of over P14 billion, its board of directors has managed to defy even Pres. Duterte's orders.

Based upon the information gathered by Tiglao, a year ago, five of the group's eight diretors nearly got to stop the firm's operations when they resigned and got all the key officers to go on mass leave, to protest Pres. Duterte's nomination of Rehan Lao. During that time, Pres. Duterte bent over backwards, and rescinded Lao's appointment.

Pres. Duterte then appointed in September 2018, Aquilino Trinidad as the milling group's officer-in-charge. Just seven months later though, Trinidad started to investigate allegations of corruptions in the company, six of the eight board members issued a resolution that since he was just appointed as "officer in charge" and wasn't elected by the board, he had no authority to appoint or transfer anybody in the company.

The decision of the board practically made Trinidad a nobody in the company, with virtually no authority and nothing to do.

Then in a “Memorandum to All Employees” dated May 28, the vice president for corporate services, Joven Evangelista said: “Please be informed that during the Board [sic] meeting held on 31 July 2019, the Board of Directors elected Ms Teresita Mata-Marañon” as the new president/CEO of the CIIF-OMG.

Rigoberto Tiglao then revealed that based upon the information he gathered it is allege that it was Joven Evangelista who last year "agitated"-the term they used-the firm's board members and other officers to "resign" to force Duterte to rescind his order appointing Lao as President.

The claim by various insiders is bolstered by the fact that it was Evangelista who actively talked to print and broadcast media on why the board didn't want Lao in the company.

Some evidences also pointed out that Evangelista allegedly convinced the board to deny the new president Trinidad any authority in the firm, providing them with alleged precedents in jurisprudence that an “officer-in-charge” has no appointing power in the company.

R. Tiglao also revealed that sources allege that Evangelista has been close to leftist groups, and in fact had been a lawyer for Bayan Muna cadres Teddy Casiño, Liza Masa, and Carol Pagaduan in the plunder charges that the latter filed with the Ombudsman against then President Arroyo. He was the main counsel or among the counsels in other Bayan Muna and even Akbayan cases.
