The Kingdom of Jordan, one of the Philippines ally in the Middle East under the leadership of Jordanian King Abdullah decided to donate two Bell AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopters to the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte disclosed during the 120th anniversary of the Philippine Navy on Tuesday that the Kingdom of Jordan has decided to provide attack helicopters to the Philippine government as part of the country's efforts to fight terrorism in the region.
During the announcement President Rody Duterte was quoted as saying that "Allow me to just insert something. I don’t know if I’m supposed to make it public and I really do not have a way of knowing whether it would make Esperon happy or not. But in my table before I left, that’s why I was late because I was reviewing it. Jordan is giving us two Cobra helicopters. Those things that we cannot really afford," the president said.
"He (Esperon) is now there in Jordan and I got his electronic copy for his authority to accept it and to Jordan, which faces the same problem like the Philippines, it’s terrorism," he added.
Aside from the attack helicopters from Jordan, Pres. Rody Duterte also announced that the Kingdom will be donating dozens of M113 APCs to the Philippine government. The Philippines only needs to pay for the repair and refurbising done through the Jordanian Armed Forces, plus paying for the shipping of the armored vehicles to our country.
Although Jordan did not specify further the exact variant or quantities, initial reports states that at least more than 60 M113s are to be donated to the Philippine government under the leadership of Pres. Rody Duterte.
For the Cobra Attack Helicopters to be donated to the Philippines, Jordan already mentioned in July 2017 that they will be donating at least four used Bell AH-1F Cobra attack helicopters to the Philippines but later on it was reduced to just 2 Bell AH-1F Cobra attack choppers.
The Jordanian Air Force also revealed that the Philipppines is not the first country to receive AH-1F Cobras as donation from Jordan. Earlier this year Kenya was reported to have received at least one and probably more AH-1F Cobras from Jordan.
