Incoming lawmaker, Senator Robin Padilla took to social media as he lectured veteran journalist Vergel Santos for his statement against bloggers who are favored by the Marcos administration to be accredited to cover Malacanang.
The veteran journalist, Vergel Santos snickered on the idea of vloggers/bloggers covering the Palace press briefings, together with mainstream media reporters as per announcement by incoming PCOO Chief Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles.
Vergel Santos said in an interview with a local news media outlet that blogging is not journalism. In fact, he even described blogging as "cheap," because one need not to train for it.
For Santos, journalism is governed by ethical standards. Their work go through layers of specialist vetting for truthfulness and fairness, before being out for all the public to see.
Due to the statement released by Vergel Santos, Senator-elect Robin Padilla on his part cannot let the opportunity to pass without reacting to the controversial statement of the journo, this time around, Robin tried to lectured the veteran journalist.
According to Sen. Robin Padilla, having bloggers/vloggers in Malacanang press briefing isn't about journalism but about freedom of expression.
He noted that when somebody start identifying what is superior and inferior that's when freedom of expression goes straight to the garbage bin.
Sen. Padilla even suggested to Santos to read the Philippine Constitution because it does not state who is educated or not, who has a network or does not have.
Having accredited bloggers to Malacanang press corps is giving right to every Filipino as long as it doesn't violate any law or right of someone else. Besides, Malacanang is directly owned by the people.
Padilla noted that as long as law and order is observe, everyone should be welcome. Everyone deserves to know the truth according to the number senator of the Republic.
