Jay Sonza's Earnest Appeal to Celebrate and be Proud of Mindanao Athletes Went Viral

Veteran broadcaster and prominent political analyst Jay Sonza made an earnest appeal to the general public after some critics aired their concerns about regionalism.

In a viral post shared on social media, the veteran broadcaster asked the Filipino public to let the Mindanaoans celebrate the victory of Pinoy athletes who hails from Souther Philippines.

Jay Sonza was quoted as saying "Allow us to celebrate and be proud of our Mindanao Athletes." This is the earnest appeal of Sonza from his page amid the controversial euphoria brought by the success of Mindanaoans in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The former TV News presenter appealed to the general public  after reading comments from various social media platforms asking why can't we just say our Tokyo medalist are Pinoys? Why emphasize they are Mindanaoans.

According to Jay Sonza, this style of sports writing or sportscasting isn't new because the place where you were born will always be part of an athletes victory.

The broadcaster also elaborated his explanations by citing a fefw examples following this trend.

Jay Sonza also clarified that the Mindanaoans are not insisting that Bisaya-speaking Mindanaoans are triumphant in Tokyo Olympics 2020 and explained once again that sports writing has always been this way.

Read the Complete Statement of Jay Sonza:

Allow us to celebrate and be proud of our Mindanao Athletes.

Madami akong nababasa sa ibat-ibang platform ng social media at maging sa mainstream media na nagsasabing why cant we just say our Tokyo2020 medalist are Pilipinos.

Halimbawa sa track and field - Lydia de Vega is the Asian Sprint Queen from Maycauayan, Bulacan.  Sa golf - Yuka Saso is the US Open Champion from San Ildefonso, Bulacan. Sa tennis - Alexandra Eala is the Filipina teen age tennis wonder from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Please do not take it against us if we celebrate with gusto the achievements of our national athletes.

We are simply overwhelmed with joy in our hearts with the achievements of our kababayan.

Again, my fellow Pilipinos, let us, Mindanaoans celebrate.
