DITO Telecom Spends P27 Billion to Build Towers Nationwide

The country's third telco player DITO Telecom will spend more than than P27 billion next year to roll out telecom towers in various parts of the country and to fund other operating expenses of the company.

Chief Administrative Officer of DITO Telecommunity, Atty. Adel Tamano confirms "We are aiming to spend P27 billion or more next year to expand our network," Tamano said.

He also revealed that the company panned to construct an additional 3,500 fourth-generation cell sites and about 1,500 5G cell sites next year.

During the past few months DITO Telecom said it already spend nearly P150 billion for the initial rollout of its infrastructure and other operating expenses.

According to DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago, the company fully constructed 500 towers and recently completed an additional 359 towers or a total 859 towers as of September 13, 2020.

By the end of October the company will have an estimated 1,300 operational owners which is needed to achieve the mandated targets of 37 percent population coverage and speed of 27 megabits per second by January 2021.

The Chief Technology Officer also noted that they signed on an additional six contractors for its common tower initiatives, on top of LCS Holdings for North Luzon and NCR, ZEAL Power for Southern Luzon, ALT Global for the Visayas and CEEC Tower for Mindanao. Two of the six newly-appointed contractors were Aboitiz for Cebu and Davao and the LEO Group for NCR.

DITO Telecom has the needed data centers with eight regional and two permanent core network centers in construction. Out of the 10,590-kilometer backbone and feeder cable under construction, 5,701 kilometer was finished.

Atty. Adel Tamano also added that the country's third telco player DITO Telecom is now ready for the technical audit by January 2021 and commercial rollout by March 2021.
