The tough-talking President of the Philippines ordered the transfer of domestic flights to Sangley Point, Cavite to ease airport congestion at NAIA. The decision of the President to transfer all domestic flights to Sangley Point was made during an overnight Cabinet Meeting.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement that "The President directed the operations in Sangley Point to start immediately."
According to the Presidential spokesman the suggestion to transfer domestic flights to Sangley Point Air Base in Cavite was presented by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade during Monday night's Cabinet meeting.
“Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade raised some operational concerns. To ease congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the plan to transfer general aviation or domestic flights to Sangley Air Base,” Panelo said.
During the Cabinet Meeting Secretary Panelo bared that the President wants the Sangley Airbase in Cavite to accommodate domestic flights by November 2019.
The November target is a month earlier that Tugade's target to transfer the domestic flights from NAIA to Sangley Point. Panelo said that Sec. Tugade had already initiated the testing of ferries that can operate from Mall of Asia (MOA) in Pasay City to Sangley Point within 18 to 24 minutes.
The Presidential spokesman also noted that Pres. Duterte wantedd airport security to be handled by a single entity, either from the military or civilian force to ensure passengers’ safety. Sec. Tugade on the other hand, will be drafting an executive order (EO) for the President's consideration, Panelo said.
