The legal department of the Presidential Communications Operations Office is looking into allegations of corruption against Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Harold Clavite.
PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said "Given the gravity of the corruption allegations and guided by the ‘whiff of corruption principle’ of the Duterte administration, our legal office is one with the President to stomp out corruption from the bureaucracy as long as there is proof," the PCOO Chief stated.
PIA Chief Clavite is reportedly accused of splitting contracts, misusing funds for hotel accommodations, and irregularities in the production of information materials.
In a statement released to the media, Harold Clavite said he will answer the charges in the proper forum. "If a complaint was indeed sent to the Office of the Ombudsman, then the PCOO does not have jurisdiction over those complaints." Clavite stated.
The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) will not place Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Harold Clavite under preventive suspension despite an inquiry into his alleged involvement in some irregularities.
PCOO Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Marvin Gatpayat explained that a government official could only be put under preventive suspension once a formal charge has been filed against the concerned person.
The PIA chief Harold Clavite is a former UN information management staffer, claimed that some groups were behind the demolition job against him in protest of the reforms he initiated in the agency.
