Netizens were caught by surprise with the amazing changes in the physical aspect or changes of the Manila Bay after the launching of the massive clean-up drive initiated by the national government headed by the DENR and the DILG after Pres. Duterte ordered for the clean-up of the area which was earlier neglected by various LGUs.
Photos of the amazing changes of Manila Bay is now spreading on social media as netizens compared the huge difference between the usual Manila Bay and the present status of the bay after the initial clean-up of the famous body of water in Metro Manila.
Based upon the photo that went viral on Facebook, it showed the Manila Bay with litters of garbage while another photo also showed the real beauty of the bay after the first day of the clean-up.
On January 27, 2019, at least 5,000 people gathered for the kick-off program of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation. The program was initiated by Cabinet Secretaries connected with the said project such as DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat and other members of the Cabinet.
The Manila Bay Clean-up is just one way of Duterte administration to protect the environment. According to some reports, the coliform levels of the Manila Bay were indeed increasing. Coliforms are kinds of bacterias that originates from human and animal waste.
This is not the first time that President Rody Duterte ordered closure in particular areas due to damage in the environment, last April he ordered the closure of Boracay Island for a six-month rehabilitation program that proved successful and Boracay returned to its former beauty.
