Transportation Secretary Arthur "Art" Tugade burned down Sen. Grace Poe for saying that the Philippines and the Filipino people as a whole are not ready for Jeepney Modernization when he was interviewed exclusively by former PCOO Asecc Mocha Uson.
In an interview with Mocha Uson, she asked Secretary Tugade about his comments on the statement made earlier by Sen. Grace Poe that the Philippines is not yet ready for jeepney modernization.
Secretary Art Tugade burned down Sen. Grace Poe by saying that "Alam n'yo yong modernisasyon ay isang proseso, kung sasabihin mong hindi kami handa or hindi tayo handa. That's a matter of isang pananaw, pananaw na mali. Kasi ho kung ang modernisasyon ay isang proseso, wag mo agarang isipin sa isang taon o sa isang buwan tapos ang modernisasyon, it takes a process." Tugade stated.
The DOTr Secretary added further that "Kaya nga sinasabi namin, sa loob ng tatlong taon, magkakaroon ng phasing in ng mga old unquialified and non-compliant jeepney. Magbigay daan sa tinatawag na compliant jeepney in three years. Kung hindi ho handa, ma'am overnight hindi tayo magiging handa, pero doon sa panahon na inilaan, handa po tayo at tatapusin po natin yan." Tugade stated.

Sec. Tugade also lectured Sen. Grace Poe for saying that the Philippines is not yet ready for modernization and asked the senator on when she is planning to support the jeepney modernization despite the huge number of accidents caused by delapidated jeepneys currently running.
The DOTr also noted that Sen. Grace Poe should realized that it is now the right time to improved the jeepney transport in the country which was taken for granted for the past few years. There is also no problem with the alleged expensive modern jeepneys but the government are making ways to solved the issue.
Sen. Grace Poe questioned the jeepney modernization by saying that "Ang malinaw ang gobyerno ay hindi pa handa na i-phaseout ang mga public utility vehicles na noncompliant doon sa modernization requirements nila, dahil hindi nga malinaw kung anong requirements nila, eh (What’s clear is that the government is not yet prepared to phase out PUVs that are noncompliant to their modernization requirements, because their requirements itself are vague),” Sen. Grace Poe, committee chairwoman, of the Senate Committee on Public Service.
