Netizens took to social media as they reacted on the latest statement of the veteran broadcaster and journalist who came into the defense of Sen. Antonio Trillanes who made headlines earlier for the decision of Pres. Duterte to revoke his amnesty.
Sen. Antonio Trillanes is now facing immediate arrest by authorities after Pres. Duterte issued Proclamation No. 572 "Revocation of the DND Ad Hoc Committee Resolution No. 2(#1) Dated January 31, 2011 Insofar as it Granted Amnesty to Former LtSg Antonio Trillanes IV"
The proclamation was signed by no less than Pres. Rody Duterte on August 31, 2018 before he left for an official state visit to Israel and Jordan. The proclamation was posted on national newspaper on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.
According to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra Sen. Trillanes was granted amnesty even if he did not file an Official Amnesty Application Form accordign to a certififcation from the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel that "there is no available copy of his application for amnesty in the records. Sen. Trillanes also "never expressed his guilt for the crimes that were committed," which is the basis of the invalid
Meanwhile, on social media, Karen Davila made headlines after her controversial statement regarding the proclamation of Pres. Dutere revoking the amnesty of Sen. Antonio Trillanes.
Karen Davila was quoted as saying "The court already dismissed coup de'tat & rebellion cases against him. So amnesty is valid. Amnesty has been granted. Amnesty cannot be revoked regardless who is sitting President." Davila stated on Twitter.
The statement of Karen Davila did not sit well among the supporters of Pres. Rody Duterte on social media who criticized and lambasted her for her immediate rescue and defense with Sen. Trillanes. A concerned netizen even noted that Karen Davila should not defend Trillanes because she is not a lawyer and she knows nothing about the issue.
