Netizens Asks: "Where Did Manila's P14.8 Billion Budget Go?" After Viral Evacuation Centers

Netizens took to social media asking the administration of the City of Manila on where where did the alleged P14.8 Billion Budget for 2017 due to the severity of flooding in the city and the response of various LGUs providing decent shelters for evacuees.

During the third day of Bagyong Karding hitting Metro Manila, bringing strong winds and outpouring rains in the cities and provinces of Luzon. In this time of disasters and calamities, the local government units in affected areas shoulders the biggest responsibility of handling the evacuation of its people.

Netizens lauded the impressive disaster responses of some cities in Metro Manila like the cities of Marikina, Makati and Quezon City who provided some decent temporary shelters which is even comparable to what the Japanese government did to their constituents during the earthquakes in their country.

Social media were flooded with positive reactions from netizens after Makati City and Marikina City local government units were doing very good in serving its evacuees. Based on various social media posts, photos of evacuation centers properly taken care of, giving each family a tent to rest and clean place to stay.

Meanwhile, the capital city of Manila is already left behind with its neighbors like Makati, Marikina, Taguig and Quezon City in serving its fellow residents.

In the official Facebook Page of Manila Mayor Erap Estrada, he posted some photos of evacuees having barely a neat place to settle in temporarily. They were not given a mat to sit comfortably and anything to keep them at peace as clearly seen in the photo below. Mayor Estrada just posted that evacuees are brought to Baseco evacuation center.

In an expose posted on social media by online blog, Gising Manila, the Capital City of Manila had P14.8 billion budget last year. The P1.3 billion is spent for the City Health Department, P149.8 million is spent on Manila Tricycle Regulatory Office and the P265 million is meant for Manila Traffic.

Despite the fact that Manila is the biggest city, hence a huge amount of budget was granted to it. However, the city seems being left behind to its nearby neighboring cities like Marikina, Makati, Taguig and Quezon City in times of disasters.
