Netizens took to social media as they lambasted Sen. Risa Hontiveros for her controversial statement blaming the administration of Pres. Duterte for non-action in the incursions of Chinese bombers in the West Philippine Sea near the Spratlys Group of Islands.
Sen. Hontiveros was quoted as saying "By placing our country within striking distance of its nuclear-capable bombers, China has virtually threatened us with nuclear war over the West Philippine Sea. This is unacceptable," Hontiveros said.
The controversial senator who is considered as a close-ally of the Aquino admin added further that "This is a serious threat to the lives of our citizen, an assault on our Constitution and a direct violation of internationally-recognized treaties to which we are a signatory." Hontiveros stated.
Sen. Hontiveros also challenged Pres. Rody Duterte and his foreign affairs officials to end their subservience to China despite the fact that she knew for herself that the Chinese incursions in the West Philippine Sea started even before the times of her close ally, former Pres. Noynoy Aquino.
Most netizens who saw the post of Sen. Hontiveros as it was reported by News5 reacted negatively to the statement of Sen. Hontiveros as they lambasted the senator calling her dumb for stating that the Philippines is within striking distance because we are indeed neighbors with China and during the Cold it is more dangerous for us to become target of China because of the US presence in our land.
