Newly appointed Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered all of his Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries to tender their courtesy resignations to his office as part of the President's efforts to clean up the government.
DOJ Secretary Guevarra said in a memo issued on April 24, 2018 that affected DOJ executives should turn in their resignations to President Duterte by April 30, 2018.
Justice Secretary Guevarra wrote the following statement in the memo:
"In the exigency of service, and in order to give the undersigned a free hand to perform the mandate given to him by the President, all incumbent undersecretaries and assistant secretaries of this department are hereby directed to tender their unqualified courtesy resignations to the President, through the undersigned," Guevarra wrote.
According to some news media outlets in the Philippines they obtained the order from the Office of the DOJ on Monday.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Justice Secretary Guevarra told DOJ offices - five undersecretaries and six assistant secretaries - have already submitted their resignation. The Justice Secretary also revealed that one DOJ Asec is on leave right now.
DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra was appointed by Pres. Rody Duterte as the new Justice Secretary last April 5, 2018 to replace resigned DOJ Chief Vitaliano Aguirre.
