The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) assigned in Bato, Camarines Sur finally speaks up on the controversial "wet ballots" issue during the first day of the Vice Presidential race recount. COMELEC Bato confirmed that ballots were "In Good Condition" during their turn-over to the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
According to Comelec Bato all the ballots were in good conditions during the time when they turn-over the ballots to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan last January 2018 when the ballot boxes were retrieved in preparation for the manual recount.
Former Senator Bongbong Marcos and his camp discovered that some ballots were "wet" during the first day of the manual recount from the Municipality of Bato in Camarines Norte, the same municipality wherein a huge number of undervotes were recorded during the 2016 national elections.
The "wet ballots" made headlines not only on social media but also in the mainstream media as Atty. Macalintal, the lawyer of VP Leni Robredo explained that the ballots were damaged due to the typhoon that hits Camarines Sur despite the fact that the ballot boxes were supposed to be weather proof and water proof.
Due to the wet ballots controversy during the VP recount, Comelec Officer of Bato, Camarines Sur, Alex Escape made an official statement through Bombo Radyo Bicol that that ballots were "in good condition" and he has no idea what happened afterwards and why it became wet when discovered during the first day of recount at the PET.
