Spox Harry Roque Stand by Statement that Some NGO Have Become Unwitting Tools of Drug Lords

Presidential Spokesperson who is also a veteran international lawyer confirmed that the administration of Pres. Duterte stand by their statement on the possibility that some NGOs, instead of assisting the government fulfill its human rights obligations, have become unwitting tools of drug lords.

Spox Harry Roque was quoted as saying "We stand by the statement we made on the possibility that some non-governmental organizations, instead of assisting the government fulfill its human rights obligations, have become unwitting tools of drug lords." Roque stated.

The Presidential spokesperson added further that "Such scenario, we reiterate, should not be discounted given the billion-peso losses of the drug lords. Human Rights Watch (HRW) should therefore not feel alluded to, exaggerate and politicize the issue to get some media mileage and public attention" Roque said.

The statement of Spox Roque came out after Brad Adams, Asia Director of the Human Rights Watch released a statement calling out the Presidential Spokesperson for accusing some NGO's for allegedly having connections with the country's drug lords.

Brad Adams was quoted as saying "The statements by Philippine foreign secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and President Duterte's spokesman Harry Roque that drug lords may be using human rights groups to criticize and undermine the government are shockingly dangerous and shameful." Adams stated. He added further that "Are they trying to have death squads target human rights activists? Cayetano and Roque provide no evidence. They should withdraw their comments immediately." Adams noted.

The statement of Spox Harry Roque against Brad Adams also got some support from concerned netizens who sided with Secretary Roque who stand by his statement against some human rights groups or NGOs'.
