Concerned citizens from San Felipe, Zambales called the attentions of various government agencies particularly the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Local Government Units (LGUs) to stop the sand mining activities in the province.
The viral call of the people of San Felipe Zambales was first posted by the Facebook page This is my Zambales as they showed some photos of the incident in the said town wherein 7 ships were caught mining and transporting sands from the said area going to an unknown destination.
Based upon the initial investigation of the said concerned citizens, the activities in San Felipe which is beach quarrying is not allowed in the areas and they asked questions on why it was able to elude the local authorities in the province.
Some reports also revealed that the company conducting sand quarrying in Zambales was not able to declare the real quantities they took from the said beach area.
An initial information presented by the DENR they revealed that the company ECOLINK failed to comply with all the requirements. The company also failed to present their permit of building a pier and revealed the main reasons why they did not comply failed to secure necessary requirements for their sand mining operations.
