The construction of Mindanao's largest and longest bridge project, the Panguil Bay Bridge which will connect the provinces of Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte will start this month of January 2018 and it is expected to be finished during the year 2020.
Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways revealed on his official Facebook Page that the construction of the 3.4 kilometers bridge connecting Tangub City, Misamis Occidental and Tubod City, Lanao del Norte will commence this month.
Sec. Villar was quoted as saying "Construction of the Panguil Bay Bridge, a 2.48 km bridge connecting Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte, will start this year," he said.
The Panguil Bay Bridge Project is considered as one of the major infrastructure development in Northern Mindanao which will connect two major cities and expected to reduce travel time between Tangub and Tubod from the usual 2.5 hours to 7 minutes.
The bridge project will also significantly improve travel time from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to the cities of Tangub, Ozamiz, Oroquieta, Dipolog and Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte.
According to the Duterte administration the construction of the Panguil Bay Bridge will cost the government around P586 billion out of the total P4.9 billion cost while the remaining cost will be shouldered by one of Korea's largest bank, the Export-Import Bank of Korea - Economic Development Cooperation Fund (KEXIM-EDCF) through a loan by the Philippine government.
The National Economic Development Authority under the Duterte administration identified the Panguil Bay Bridge as one of the 75 priority project of the national government.
NEDA also confirmed that the funds for the construction of Access Roads of the bridge on both sides amounting to P250 million have been included for this year's budget under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte.
