Concerned netizen Mon Cualoping called the attention of Rappler and its writer Pia Ranada for allegedly disrespecting the President on social media. According to Cualoping, as part of our vibrant democracy, he humbly asked Ranada and Rappler to show respect and courtesy to the duly elected President of the Philippines.
Pia Ranada Robles on her latest social media post stated that "This guy has a flawed understanding of press freedom" and added an article by Rappler written by herself with the title "Duterte to media: Criticize 'with moderation'"
The statement of Pia Ranada Robles on her official social media account did not sit well among supporters of Pres. Duterte, as one of them is Cualoping who stated that he stand for democracy and believe in our institution and trust Pres. Duterte together with 80% of Filipinos.
According to the concerned netizen, the post of Pia Ranada is pushing it too much, although criticisms are fine, but to find fault, nitpick and make things personal, and have emotions overpower critical thinking and discourse would just further dilute the issue - the ownership of Rappler as a corporate entity, not as a media entity.
Here's the Complete Statement of Mon Cualoping:
I stand for democracy. I believe in our institutions. I trust in President Duterte and 80% of Filipinos think the same way.
Hence, this post by Pia Ranada Robles is pushing it too much - same way that Communications Secretary Martin Marfori Andanar was unfairly attacked in one of her articles. I understand where she is coming from - a very tumultuous time for her and Rappler. As humans, we have been through the same situations, especially when we were unjustly accused of things by those critical to this Administration.
From my point of view, criticisms are fine. Par for the course. But to find fault, nitpick and make things personal, and have emotions overpower critical thinking and discourse would just further dilute the issue - the ownership of Rappler as a corporate entity, not as a media entity.
One thing I’ve learned in life, not everything we know is the truth. There are bigger and better things than what we think and feel, or what our bosses and peers tell us.
Therefore, as part of our vibrant democracy, I humbly ask her and Rappler to show respect and courtesy to the duly elected President of the Philippines and the Government that is overwhelmingly trusted by the Filipinos.
PS: I request no personal attacks to Miss Ranada. I wish no harm to her being a fellow Atenean and Filipino. Let’s give her the courtesy that her principal refuses to give the President and this Government.
