The tough-talking President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte has appointed Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) founding chairman Dante Jimenez as chairman of Presidential Anti-Corporation Commission (PACC).
Malacañang announced on Monday, that they released the appointment papers of Jimenez signed by Pres. Duterte on January 12, 2018. Aside from Jimenez, the President also appointed former senatorial candidate Greco Belgica as one of the commissioners of PACC.
Apart from Jimenez and Belgica, the President also tapped Gregorio Luis Contacto III, and Rickson Chong who will served as commissioners of PACC. The PACC is formed through Executive Order (EO) 43 inked on October 4, 2017, the commission is tasked to investigate administrative cases against individuals belonging to all branches of government.
Pres. Rody Duterte created the PACC following his earlier intent to investigate the Ombudsman's office for alleged rampant extortion activities to dismiss complaints filed against various individuals. The President vested the fact-finding body with power, on complaints or motu propio (on his own impulse), concurrently with the Office of the Ombudsman "to hear, investigate, receive, gather, and evaluate evidence, intelligence reports, and information in administrative cases against all presidential appointees in the executive branch."
The PACC, upon the President's instruction, may investigate presidential appointees in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police "whenever he deems it necessary or appropriate."
Under the newly-signed EO 43, President Duterte may also direct the commission to conduct lifestyle checks and fact-finding investigations against employees in the executive, judiciary or legislativve branches who may have violated the Constitution.
