The Japanese government showed how they care for the Philippines particularly the Philippine National Police as they turned over 100 Patrol Vehicles to the PNP on November 29, 2017.
A total of 40 brand new Mitsubishi Montero SUVs were ceremonially parked in front of the PNP National Headquarters Building in Camp Crame. The donations from Japan were received by PNP Chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.
The modern vehicles from the Japanese government are part of the 87 SUVs, and 13 vans to be distributed all over the Philippines according to the statement released by Gen. Bato Dela Rosa.
Aside from the modern vehicles and SUVs from Japan, the Japanese government also donated 6 bomb suits, 6 ballistic shields, and 440 pairs of bullet-proof helmets and vests.
The donation from the government of Japan to the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte amounts to about *¥500 million (P225.6 million).
Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda said during the turnover ceremony that Japan hopes the donation would help strengthen bilateral cooperation against “terrorism” and “violent extremism.”
Ambassador Haneda added that the donation represents what President Rodigo Duterte describes as the “golden age” of Philippines-Japan relations.
In response, Dela Rosa said, “We assure the government of Japan that this will help serve the Filipino people, also the foreign nationals who visit our country.”
The modern vehicles donated by the Japanese government is considered as some netizens as slap to the face of former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas who was instrumental for the purchase of the allegedly overpriced Kia Enforcer vehicles which is worth millions of pesos and even costs more compared to present price of Mitsubishi Montero which was donated by Japan to the PNP.
