Watch: Pres. Duterte Names Zarates, Rest of Makabayan Bloc as Communist, Co-Conspirators

The tough-talking President of the Republic, Pres. Rody Duterte accused militant lawmakers belonging to the so-called Makabayan Bloc as legal fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines and serving as "co-conspirators" in efforts to overthrow the government.

The statement of Pres. Rody Duterte came out during the celebration of the Bonifacio Day and a few hours after the news of the death of Bayan Muna Rep. Cullamat's daughter at the hands of the Philippine Army.

Pres. Duterte mentioned during the nationwide address to the nation the death of Cullamat's daughter, said members of the Makabayan Bloc in the House of Representatives are not being red-tagged but merely being identified as CPP fronts.

The President was quoted as saying "We are not tagging you. We are identifying you as communists," said the Pres. Duterte who previously enjoyed the support of the leftist groups when he was still mayor of Davao City and even appointed four left-leaning individuals to his Cabinet in the first year of the Duterte administration.

The former Mayor of Davao City even identified in particular, Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate as being part of the CPP-NDF.

Pres. Duterte was quoted as saying "We are not tagging you. We are identifying you as communists," "The liability of a mere soldier is the liability of the entire organization... All these legal fronts, they are all communists - Makabayan, Bayan, they are all legal fronts, Gabriela." Duterte stated.

"We are not red-tagging you. We are identifying you as members in a grand conspiracy comprising all the legal fronts they have organized headed by NDF (National Democratic Front), the New People's Army, and the Communist Party of the Philippines," he added.

Pres. Duterte added further that "Members of Congress are part of this. This Congressman Zarate, you are a co-conspirator. You are a communist. I know that from way back. Let's unmask everything now," the President said.

Last December 2017, Pres. Rody Duterte signed a proclamation declaring the CPP-NPA as a terrorist group and directed the Department of Justice to begin a proscription case before the proper court.

On Sunday, Lorenzana said in a statement "The death of 22-year-old armed rebel Jevilyn Cullamat during an encounter between the NPA and government forces is a grim reminder of the effects of the fruitless armed conflict perpetrated by these communist terrorist groups."
