DITO Telecom Eyes 1,300 Cell Towers Completed by October 2020

The country's third largest telecommunications network, DITO Telecommunity promised to complete at least 1,300 cell towers by October 2020 as confirmed by Rodolfo D. Santiago, DITO's Chief Technology Officer of the company.



DITO stated they need to reach the required coverage nationwide, as of July, they have already completed 300 towers that can run as a network while 500 have towers erected but are yet to have support facilities.



The telecom company siad that the 300 finished cell sites are all self-built and are located on private properties while the construction of the 1,300 target sites can be completed by October.

Since March 2020, DITO has already conducted some technical tests, albeit internally, these tests could have been done in public if not for the lockdown, the company noted.

Atty. Adel Tamano, Chief Executive Officer of DITO Telecom said earlier that the company had conducted series of domestic technical calls via its own netowrk in five areas in the country, as well as some international calls to Hong Kong and Beijing.



The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) announced that it had approved the appeal of the telecommunications firm to extend its technical audit, which the latter said did not affect its technical runs.

Dito Telecommunity, has allotted P150 billion for capital expenditure to start operations as the country’s third telecommunications player. The company is spearheaded by Dennis A. Uy of Chelsea Logistics and partnered with China Telecom.
