PH Official Dissatisfied With Thai Newspaper Headline Calling PH as "Land of COVID-19"

A top official of the Philippine Embassy in Thailand expressed dissatisfaction over Thailand newspapers' headline that called our country as the "land of COVID-19."



Philippine Consul General to Thailand Val Simon Roque, wrote a letter to Thai Rath editor-in-chie Saravut Vacharaphol as he said that "the characterization is inappropriate, insensitive, and unhelpful" during this time when all members of ASEAN are working together to solve the problems caused by the pandemic.



According to the government official the teachers that went to Thailand underwent strict health procedures and followed protocols as well as quarantine rules set by the Thai government.

As reported by various news outlets, on August 8, 2020, there were 165 Filipino teachers who arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport to make up for the country's shortage of such proessionals.

This news was reported by popular Thai newspaper, Thai Rath on Sunday and described the Philippines as the land of COVID.

Based on official reports of the Department of Health and the World Health Organization, the Philippine recorded its highest single-day rise with 6,958 on Monday, bringing total case count to 136,638, still the most count among Southeast Asian countries, followed by Indonesia with 127,083.
