FEU Instructor Slams GMA News for Spreading Fake News About Unreported 3 Million COVID Cases

Concerned netizen and former instructor of FEU slams GMA News for allegedly spreading fake news about the controversial 3 million COVID-19 cases unreported from April to June, based on Ateneo study estimates.

GMA News reported on Thursday, August 20, 2020 that around 3 million COVID-19 cases were unreported from April to June according to the estimates made by an Ateneo study.

The concerned netizen was identified as Jan Suing who slammed the news outlet for allegedly spreading fake news and causing controversies on social media.

He noted that the article posted by GMA News was based on a working paper which means it was never peer reviewed.

The article even admitted that the basis of the computation is crude estimation from a paper which was never been published in any academic journal.

Jan Suing then noted that the said news article only proved that journalism in the country is total garbage because they published news based on a paper never been published that could sew confusion among Filipinos.

Read the Complete Post of Jan Suing:

GMA News wrote an alarmist article about a study that is:
- based on a working paper
- which means hindi pa peer reviewed.

The article reads, “Ang pinagbasehan kasi natin dito sa computation, crude estimation lang naman siya based sa isang papel na nai-publish sa isang academic journal several months ago.”

Yes, based on a crude estimation from a working paper published MONTHS AGO. Crude estimation!!! #%€$@!!!
Ito pa, oh. Nakalagay sa mismong paper:

“ADMU Econ-ACERD working papers are preliminary versions of research papers that have not been published in a journal or vetted through a peer-review process. The purpose of circulation is to elicit comments and suggestions. The contents or opinions expressed in the paper are the author(s)’ sole responsibility and do not necessarily reflect the views of Ateneo de Manila University and ACERD. Any errors of commission or omission are the author(s)’ and should not be attributed to any of the above.”

Ganito na ba ka-basura ang journalism sa Pilipinas?
YUCK.

Sorry, I’m still gonna eat out this weekend, spend for the economy (whilst following health protocols, of course) and this TRASH article won’t stop me.
