San Beda Lawyer Expose the Alleged Real PR Plan of ABS-CBN's Closure

San Beda lawyer and prominent Duterte supporter on social media, Atty. Bruce Rivera made an interesting expose about the alleged PR plan of ABS-CBN in relations to their closure and franchise renewal.

According to Atty. Rivera, he was waiting for the big PR picture to come into play and explain it with clarity and the reason why stars like Kim Chiu, Coco Martin and so any others whould dumb themselves down to show indignation for the closure and manipulate the Filipino love for drama and beauty.

The veteran lawyer noted that if ABS-CBN really wanted to fight out the cease and desist order, it is quite easy to stay on air by filing an MR on the order or even preempt the same order by filing an action before May 4, 2020. But that was not the PR plan.

Atty. Rivera revealed that ABS-CBN's plan was prepare a closure as if it was a funeral, arouse the sentimental propensity of the Filipino people, make most of us angry and use the dramatic prowess of their most popular talents to ignite a wrath.

The alleged PR plan of ABS-CBN initially succeeded, until the obvious intention started to backfire and the cowardly stance of its executives made the general public remember the past anomalies.

TRIAL BY MEDIA

I have been biting my tongue on the franchise issue of the ABS-CBN. Why? I was waiting for the big PR picture to come into play and explain it with clarity. The reason why stars like Kim Chiu, Coco Martin and so any others would dumb themselves down (when I know for a fact that these people are smart because you cannot survive and thrive inside the corporate jungle of the network if you do not know how to play the game) to show indignation for the closure and manipulate the Filipino love for drama and beauty.

If Dos really wanted to fight out the cease and desist order, it is quite easy to stay on air. File an MR on the order even preempt the same order by filing an action before May 4, 2020.

But that was not the PR plan.

Their plan was prepare a closure as if it was a funeral, arouse the sentimental propensity of the Filipino people, make most of us angry and use the dramatic prowess of their most popular talents to ignite a wrath. The typical argumentum ad mesiricordiam by using 11 thousand employees, the timing of the closure and the star power in their disposal.

And yes, it initially succeeded. Until, the obvious intention started to backfire and the cowardly stance of its executives made the general public remember the past anomalies.

For once, the Filipino people never had a problem with the entertainment shows of the network. In fact, they are the saving grace why it still has profits. Netflix may be the escape of some but majority of Filipinos withour internet access still watch the shows, tele-novelas etc. And while many question the quality, majority of the Filipinos are not connosseurs of quality programs.

So, when it mobilized the entertainment sector to be the frontliners in the closure of the network they never caused and using defending press freedom as one of its battlecry, the public began to see the anomaly. It is like sending the woman and children to the forefront while the people who should be there are the people in news and public affairs.

The issue that continually haunts the network is its bias and partisan politicking. Something very obvious, many people have first hand experience. The coverage of the election rallies, the choice of candidates to highlight even the demotion of a very popular journalist because she decided to change the narrative after months of being in the Duterte rallies and seeing the people's reaction.

So, why will the network send its shell-shocked entertainment stars (most of whom are not even aware of the networks strategy to close to create uproar) when the real perpetrators of bias are conveniently hidden or not even explaining why they are not biased or why they are.

The very same distortion of news that fails to demarkate news presenting and news interviews (where opinions, slanted questions and editorializing are not allowed) and news commentary (when there should be a disclaimer on a journalists political leanings).

That is the reason why victims of injustice by the network started to voice out their disgust because the network who has time and time again took advantage of the Filipino emotions decided to muddle the issue at the expense of Martin's lisp or Chiu's simplistic and sophomoric understanding of very heavy concepts. Things that should be placed on the hands of Davila, Omaga-Diaz Failon, De Castro and so many other journalists in its stable.

As Napoles' lawyer and spokesperson, I knew first hand how they will protect politicians-friends. When the Napolist came out, the House and Senate had copies as Sec. de Lima gave then Sen. Guingona a copy of it against the wishes of Napoles. Many of them were worried of they have been implicated and in fact, many of the allies have been. To our dismay, the list was just discounted by the appearance of many other lists.

And Dos never did an in-depth study of the list because the President already decided Napoles lied while believing the second hand witness who only included his political enemies and viable presidential threats then.

The PDAF and the DAP problem would have not wrecked havoc on our nation if ABS-CBN is truly in the service of the Filipinos. The network gladly showed alleged Napoles houses when most are rented, the milk bath and the submarine though the real ownship has not been verified while obscuring the role of PNoy's closest ally in introducing the pork barrel scheme to Napoles.

With Speaker Cayetano passing a bill for a provisional franchise, this is a political question only Congress can decide but I find the wisdom behind it. It is to buy time when sobriety will enable us to discuss the franchise in a manner should be discussed and the nation is not in the grip of a pandemic where we are held hostage by the charivari of appeals to emotion that plays to the narrative of the network not wanting to discuss issues and banking on an uproar it hopes to get from a population prone to credulity.
