Malacañang Probes UP-Ayala Technohub Deal

The Malacañang Palace under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte is looking into allegations that the University of the Philippines (UP) only receives P22 per square meter from UP-Ayala Technohub as first exposed on social media by prominent blogger Thinking Pinoy.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview with radio station dzIQ on Sunday that he need to probe it.

Spokesman Panelo was quoted as saying "I read in the Internet that yung Technohub diyan sa UP, ran by the Ayalas, parang maraming ginawang komputasyon yung nag research, parang lumalabas na ang buong lugar na yun is being rented by the Ayalas by less than P20 per square meter in 25 years. Kung totoo yun malaki na namang problema,” Panelo stated.

The alleged oligarchs family of the Ayalas have earned the ire of the Philippine President after the controversial publication of the Singapore Permanent Court of Arbitration compelling the Philippine government to pay Manila Water Company, Inc. P7.4 billion for the implementation of water increases.

Aside from the Ayala-owned Manila Water, Pres. Duterte also warned the other water concessionaire in Metro Manila owned by Manny V. Pangilinan, the Maynilad Water for their alleged anomalous deals with the MWSS.

Manila Water based on report is a joint venture between Ayala Corporation and the United Utilities of the United Kingdom and the Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan.

Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Panelo reiterated that the present administration will review all existing government contracts with private firms.

"“Lahat ng anomaliya titignan ng gobyerno. Basta merong anomaliya. Hindi lang Ayala, lahat ng may kontrata na anomaliya titingnan natin,” he said.

The possible probe of the UP-Ayala Land Technohub deals stemmed from the latest expose presented by Thinking Pinoy during the past few days wherein he computed the possiblen earnings of the government from the prime lot owned by UP but being leased out by Ayala to various companies in Quezon City.
