Prominent leftist representatives and leaders of the left-leaning organizations were included in the subpoena issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ). The left-leaning groups includes Anakbayan, Akbayan, Kabataan and Bayan Muna.
Rep. Sarah Elago of Kabataan, Akbayan Party-list Rep. Tom Villarin, Anakbayan spokesperson Alex Danday, former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares, and officers of Kabataan party-list, and all members of Anakbayan were named by the DOJ in the subpoena who were accused in violation of child trafficking and child abuse laws.
The case is based on an addendum to the complaint filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-CIDG) at the DOJ on August 13.
The left-leaning groups, Kabataan and Anakbayan party-lists were among the subjects of an on-going Senate probe on minors allegedly recruited by leftist rebels through their legal fronts.
Rep. Sarah Elago of Kabataan Party-list, one of the staunchest critics of Pres. Rody Duterte, has repeatedly declined attending hearings due to on-going commitments in the House of Representatives.
Netizens reacted with the recent development as they lauded the action of the Duterte administration for their immediate actions against the alleged legal fronts of the communists in the Philippines.
Concerned netizen Mykiuka Dudes reacted by saying that all those who study in the University of the Philippines (UP) should be put into jail, because of the continuous recruitment of the NPA in the country's top educational institutions.
