Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong showcased how they loved the candidates of Pres. Rody Duterte and how they hate the candidates of Otso Diretso as they chanted "Duterte" during the campaign rally of the Liberal Party bets in Hong Kong.
The Otso Diretso bets visited the Central District Hong Kong as they presented their platforms and plans once elected as lawmakers with the help of some celebrities and the Vice President Leni Robredo who took time to campaign for the senatorial bets of the opposition.
A video is now gaining the rounds online showing how several OFWs who were present at the same place chanted "Duterte" instead of showing support to the Otso Diretso bet. The video was originally uploaded by OFW Joy Nerie.
Watch How the OFWs Chanted "Duterte" During Otso Diretso Rally:
The chants of the Hong Kong OFWs became louder when the five candidates of Otso Diretso were introduced to the huge number of OFWs in Hong Kong.
President Duterte is considered as the most popular head of state in Hong Kong among Overseas Filipino Workers, therefore, it is indeed a challenge for Otso Diretso to convince them to vote for the Liberal Party candidates.
The Otso Diretso candidates who went to Hong Kong to convince the OFWs to vote for them were Human Rights lawyer Chel Diokno, Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc, former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, election lawyer Romeo Macalintal, and former Congressman Erin Tañada were present during the event.
Aside from the five senatorial bets of Otso Diretso, the group was also accompanied by Vice Pres. Leni Robredo and veteran actress Agot Isidro to show their support to the opposition candidates.
Some political analyst already said that the opposition group Otso Diretso was only wasting time in trying to convince the OFWs in Hong Kong to support the opposition.
According to an analyst, Hong Kong is already considered a bailiwick of Duterte who’s visiting the said Chinese special administrative region once a year.
"I think overseas Filipinos have already made up their minds even before the campaign period has begun. The wooing, ‘yung panliligaw sa OFW, dapat that should happen even before the campaign period. If you reach out to them now, most likely they are just going to say why only now?" Ateneo Policy Center Senior Research Fellow Michael Henry Yusingco told ABS-CBN news in an interview.
