Fake US State Department Advisory on Philippine Water Shortage Exposed on Social Media

An alleged fake US State Department Advisory on Threats to Security in the Philippines due to water shortage crisis was exposed on social media and netizens are calling the attention of Facebook Fact Checkers in the Philippines why they were silent on this issue.

A certain Rodel Rodis posted an alleged advisory coming from the US State Department about threats to security in the Philippines due to water shortage crises that could escalate to terrorism.

According to the advisory issued on March 17 stated that "Threat of terrorism has been supplanted at code red level by severe water shortage. US nationals strongly advised staying away from the country until basic sanitation problems are resolved."

The fake news about the US State Department advisory was exposed by several netizens on social media. Veteran author and political analyst Malou Tiquia was even calling the attention of Rappler on why they are not calling it.

Here's the Complete Statement of Malou Tiquia:

Hey # Rappler I got this from Cora Guidote”s and she checked it and there was no advisory. In short, this is #fake so why are you not calling it? As guardian of the great unknown, a tag probably of misleading would be apt, right? Or would you rather look the other way and do wink, wink bec it plays into your narrative? Now, who is weaponizing again? Damn it! Even democracy is dead, right? Whew! #FacebookFactCheck #GatekeeperSleeping #WhoGetsToCheckRappler

Another concerned citizen, RG San Luis also revealed that the person who first spread the news on social media, Rodel Rodis is reportedly Andy Bautista's lawyer with ICE as he appeals to further extend his already extended stay in the US.

During the past few days, some parts of Metro Manila experienced the worst water shortage in years, leaving bucket-bearing families to wait hours to fill up from tanker trucks and some hospitals to turn away less urgent cases.

The water crisis ended after the Pres. Rody Duterte's ultimatum to MWSS and Manila Water to released the much-needed water to the general public.
