"Cultist" Suspect Behind Christine Silawan Slay Captured in Davao City

The controversial and alleged "cultist" behind the death of Christine Silawan was captured by authorities in Davao City a few days after the brutal incident in Lapu-Lapu City.

Police authorities captured Jonas Bueno on the warrant filed against him by the Danao City Regional Trial Court in 2017. The suspect was allegedly behind the brutal killings of other people in the past using the same method used to kill Silawan.

Aside from Jonas Bueno, his brothers, Junry Bueno and Jury Mal-Ang were also included in the warrant which was served by the operatives of the CIDG in Davao Region.

Bueno, the primary suspect of Silawan's murder was working as a construction worker in Matina, Davao City when he was arrested by authorities on Friday. He is now under the custody of NBI Davao Region.

According to the initial reports of some local media in Davao City, Jonas Bueno was also behind another case where a farmer, identified as Trinidad Batucan, 60, was found lifeless and skinned in Danao City, Cebu on January 11, or three (3) months before the Silawan slay happened in Lapu-Lapu City.

The three Bueno Brothers have identified also as former members of the New People's Army (NPA) according to the information released by Dano City PNP. Reports also said that Jonas Bueno is the only surviving member of the Bueno Brothers.

According to Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, Jonas Bueno didn't resist arrest when he was found by the members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Davao City. "He has been known in the areas as Jason Martel," she said.

Rumors circulating that Jonas Bueno and the other suspects were part of the cult that victimize people as a sacrifice.

However, PNP said that Bueno is not the only suspect in the case, saying that they're still finding another man who communicated with Christine Silawan before the slaying happened.

“Doon sa cellphone na nakuha sa kamag anak noong biktima, sa patuloy na imbestigasyon na isinasagawa ay may mga nakuhang impormasyon na may kausap itong biktima noong araw na iyon,” Police Colonel Bernard Banac, Spokesperson of PNP said.

The authorities said that the other suspect who’s still at large might be having a psychological disorder and also using shabu.

“Sa taong may psychological disorder at lango sa pinagbabawal na gamot, pinagsama yan makakagawa talaga ng mga ganitong karumal dumal na bagay,” Banac said.

Government authorities revealed that a total of P2 million reward was earlier offered in exchange for information that could help solve Silawan case.

The incident sparked anger on social media after the photos of Silawan has been circulated on the internet showing how she was brutally skinned to death by the suspects.
