SM Companies Summoned for Violating the "Clean Water Act" as Part of Manila Bay Clean-up

The national government under the Duterte administration made a significant announcement during the past few days, particularly during the kick-off of the Manila Bay Clean-up. Aside from closing the famous Aristocrat Restaurant was ordered cease and desist, various companies owned by SM Group of Companies were issued notices of violations per Clean Water Act law.

According to the national government, officials of the following establishments listed below will be summoned to explain what "remedial measures" they will implement after they were given "notices" for violating the Clean Water Act.

SM Corporate Offices
SM Prime Holdings, SM Mall of Asia
Lola Taba & Lolo Pato (Seaside Commercial Spaces)
SM Prime Holdings – SM Ferry Terminal (MOA complex)
SMDC Residences Condominium

According to DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu “This is a battle that will be won not with force or arms but with the firm resolve to bring Manila Bay back to life,” Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said in a statement.

During the Manila Bay Clean-up kick-off more than 5,000 volunteers participated in the clean-up from various government agencies headed by the DENR, DILG, DOT, and DND.
