Veteran street parliamentarian Satur Ocampo and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro have been arrested and detained at the police station in Talaingod, Davao Del Norte since Wednesday evening after they were allegedly attacked by unidentified men.


According to the Philippine National Police the arrest of ACT-Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro, former Congressman Satur Ocampo, and 79 others in Davao Del Norte is for alleged child trafficking.



Some news outlets reported that the "tribal leaders and chieftain" will file a case of child trafficking against the arrested persons.

Although the case is still unclear on what grounds for the charges against prominent political leaders, under the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012, it is illegal to"recruit, transport, harbor, obtain, transfer, maintain, hire, offer, provide, adopt or receive a child for purposes of exploitation or trading them, including but not limited to, the act of baring and/or selling a child for any consideration or for barter for purposes of exploitation."

Meanwhile, before the arrest, Satur Ocampo-President of Bayan Muna partylist and a former member of Congress-and Castro were in Talaingod town on a humanitarian mission when they were arrested, according to a member of the ACT party-list.

In an official statement released on social media, Rep. Antonio Tinio (ACT party-list), the mission was stopped at a roadblock. Some elements of the of 56th Infantry Battalion initiated the roadblock resulting to the arrest of Satur Ocampo and Rep. France Castro.



Police and military authorities have held for questioning former party-list representative Satur Ocampo and ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro in Talaingod, Davao del Norte since Wednesday evening.

Chief Insp. Jason Baria, Police Regional Office 11 (Davao) spokesperson, confirmed on Thursday that Ocampo, Castro, 17 adults and 14 minors are being held for possible breach of the Republic Act No. 7610, a law that provides special protection against child abuse, exploitation, and discrimination.

Ocampo and Castro were in town following reports that children and teachers of the Salugpungan Ta Tanu Igkanugon Community Learning School in Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil, were fleeing due to alleged forcible closure of the schools.
