P320-Million Port Construction Project in Cebu Under Pres. Duterte to Start in 2019

President Rody Duterte's Build, Build, Build Program resulted into some of the most ambitious construction projects across the country and one of them is the P320-Million RoRo Port in the Municipality of San Fernando, Cebu Province.



The construction of the P320-Million Port Project in Cebu will start in the first quarter of 2019 according to the confirmation released to the media by Cebu Port Authority (CPA) General Manager Angelo Verdan.

According to Gen. Manager Verdan the Department of Transportation (DOTr) appropriated funds under its 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA). The Cebu Port Authority is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).



Although the budget was appropriated in 2016, the amount was already obligated through partial withdrawal of funds to finance the feasibility study that would determine its economic viability, and to find out how some operators would be affected.

The CPA General Manager also said that the team that is preparing the documents is making the detailed engineering design,, which will be submitted to the Cebu Port Commission (CPC) for approveal. The CPC is the policy-making body of the Cebu Port Authorty (CPA), which will implement the project.

Gen. Manager Verdan was quoted as saying "We will definitely start the construction of the project before the ban by the Commission on Elections in connection to the May 13, 2019 mid-term polls,” Verdan said.

Once completed, Gen. Manager Angelo Verdan said, commercial activity in San Fernando will increase because of the vessels that will be sailing from the town to different destinations in Visayas and Mindanao and vice versa.
