DOJ Files Warrant of Arrest and Hold Departure Order (HDO) Against Sen. Antonio Trillanes

The Department of Justice (DOJ) already filed a "very urgent" motion with the Makati Regional Trial Court to issue an "Alias Warrant of Arrest" and "Hold Departure Order" against Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after President Rody Duterte declared that hte amnesty given to him by former Pres. Noynoy Aquino was considered void from the very start.

The DOJ motion stated that "It is clear that this instant case is still pending with this Honorable Court and has yet to be terminated through a promulgation of judgment which was merely suspended last December 16, 2010," the DOJ's motion stated.

Aside from the Alias Warrant of Arrest, the Department of Justice said that Sen. Trillanes should be slapped by a Hold Departure Order because "he has the means and resources to flee to another country in order to escape criminal jurisdiction." the Justice Department stated.

During the past few days, Sen. Trillanes said that he would not surrender to the authorities because they went to the Senate premises without showing an arrest warrant against him. The senator was quoted as saying "It's something na di ko aatrasan. However, what we're questioning is the principle behind it. This is a warrantless arrest so we need to fight this warrantless arrest." Trillanes told the reporters.

According to the DOJ's statement the alias warrant is issued if the original warrant of arrest has been returned.

The revocation of the amnesty granted to Sen. Antonio Trillanes made headlines yesterday after a news report and he confirmation of the DOJ was presented to the general public. The DOJ anounced that Pres. Duterte signed a proclamation nullifying the amnesty received by Trillanes.

The proclamation of Pres. Duterte stated that Sen. Trillanes didn't amit his crimes of coup d'etat which criticially requireed in filing an amnesty. The opposition already labeled the move by the Palace as political persecution to silence the critics of the administration but most netizens on social media were happy with the proclamation of Pres. Duterte.
