DILG Confirms Soldiers and Cops Recruited to Take Part in Red October vs. Pres. Duterte

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed to the media that there are soldiers and policemen who are being recruited to participate in the alleged ouster plot against Pres. Rody Duterte dubbed Red October.

Secretary Eduardo Año made the remarks in the wake of reports that communists and mainstream opposition leaders have come together in a plot to bring down the Duterte administration. Pres. Rody Duterte was the first to reveal about the alleged plot to bring him down.

Top officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines have referred to the plot as Red October. The plot will continue according to some intel officers after the failure of the opposition during the September 21 rally.

The DILG Secretary also stated that he received information of the alleged recruitment of soldiers and police officers by personalities outside the uniformed services shortly after Duterte returned from his visit to Israel and Jordan from September 2 to 5.

The former commanding general of the AFP, was quoted as saying "At this level, nasa initial stage pa lang ang recruitment," Año said. “I cannot say who heads the plan. But based on recovered documents, it's the CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army),” Año added.

The Liberal Party leadership particularly VP Leni Robredo and former Pres. Aquino have earlier denied that the former ruling party was involved in any ouster plot while the CPP-NPA also denied the allegations of orchestrating the Red October plot.
