Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido Plans to Run for Mayor of Ozamiz City

Controversial police officer and known in the social media sphere as the Anti-Narco Mayor Cop, Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, the Chief of Police of Ozamiz City admitted in an interview with the national media that he has plans to run for Mayor of Ozamiz City.

The Police Officer who is best known for his impressive career against illegal drugs in the Philippines, said that he is set to transfer his voter's registration to Ozamiz City from his home province in Leyte, where he also served as Police Chief before being assigned in Ozamiz.

The controversial Police Chief was the head of the police force of the town of Albuera, Leyte when the late Mayor Rolando Espenosa, who was a drug suspect, was shot dead inside his jail in Baybay City Provincial Jail in 2016.

When PCI Jovie Espenido was transferred to Ozamiz City in 2017, then-Mayor Reynaldo "Aldong" Parojinog and 14 others linked to illegal drug were killed in a series of raids in the city.

The famous Anti-Narco Cop was supposed to be transfferred to Iloilo City, where former Mayor Jed Mabilog, another official on Pres. Duterte's list of alleged narco-politicians, is incumbent Mayor of the City. There were speculations that PCI Espenido was assigned to Iloilo to hound Mayor Mabilog but Malacañang denied these pronouncements without giving clear reasons about the transfer.

Pres. Rody Duterte cancelled Espenido's transfer to Iloilo City. The President had given Espenido an award for "Outstanding Performance in Anti-Illegal Drug Operations and led to the eradication of illegal drug activities in Eastern Visayas and Ozamiz City.
