The tough-talking President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte ordered a top officials of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to be dismissed and put to jail for alleged corruption. The top PMA official was identified as PMA Comptroller Hector Maraña.
Pres. Duterte released and signed the dismissal order of the PMA Comptroller during his speech at the Go Negosyo's 'Pilipinas Angat Lahat' program at the Rizal Hall in Malacañan Palace on August 14, 2018. Pres. Duterte's signature was signed and affixed in front of the businessmen and the business communities who attended the sai event.
According to Pres. Duterte, former PMA Comptroller Hector Maraña allegedly committed Malversation of Funds of the cadets worth P15-Million. The President also recommends Hector Maraña to be imprisoned for 6-12 years.
Pres. Duterte was quoted as saying "Send the guy to hell. That is an order." The President told his aide after signing the dismissal order. Pres. Duterte's signing impressed the businessmen who attended the said Go Negosyo event.
During the speech of Pres. Duterte, he also said that he would never forgive military officials corruption the funds of his soldiers. "I would even maybe forgive if you purchase something you overprice. But if you tinker with medicines for wounded in the Marawi Siege... Take him out immediately. I want his peers so that he will be forced to answer." Pres. Duterte said.
Aside from the newly-dismissed member of the PMA leadership, Pres. Duterte also warned officials who would engage in corruption activities.
Pres. Rody Duterte already fired several high-ranking officials over the fraudulent purchases of equipment, ghost deliveries and splitting of contracts in General V. Luna Medical Center. The President earlier allocated P50-Million monthly to V. Luna Medical Center to help injured soldiers.
Right now at least 20 officials were involved in the said military corruptions issues, as of this writing only Brigadier General Edwin Torrelavega and Colonel Antonio Punzalan are being mentioned by the government to be dismissed from service.
