According to Thinking Pinoy, as early as 2012, PhilHealth has been warned about an impending 2018 bankruptcpy if it doesn't fix its finances, but the problem is that the Noynoy Aquino admin still used PhilHealth as a cash cow allegedly despite this dire warning.
RJ Nieto presented a slide taken from an internal PhilHealth board presentation showing the impending bankruptcy of the agency even before the recent expose of Sen. JV Ejercito about the bankruptcy of PhilHealth.
The Aquino government allegedly in 2015 allocated P10.6 billion from the National Budget for PhilHealth Coverage of Senior Citizens. Instead of actually using the said amount for its intended purpose, PhilHealth CEO Alex Padilla and PhilHealth ex officio Chairman Janette Loreto Garin machinated the transfer of the amount for the funding of DOH's School-based Health Center Program.
Despite the stern warning, ignoring the advice of PhilHealth's own fund managers, Padilla argued that PhilHealth can still fund senior citizen coverage even without the P10.6 billion infusion.
