Thinking Pinoy Explains Involvement in the Kuwait Rescue Video, Blaming the DFA's Fiasco (Video)

Popular social media personality and veteran blogger Thnking Pinoy or RJ Nieto explained everything about his alleged involvement in the controversial Kuwait Rescue video which apparently involved his name as he explained his role and blames the DFA for making him as the scapegoat in the said issue.

Thinking Pinoy airs his side also in the controversial and erroneous report posted by world-renowned media outlet NPR who reported and accused him of saying "Legal Action shall follow" in reference to the Kuwait Rescue video. RJ Nieto  claimed on his latest post that NPR's Colin Dwyer never interviewed him and got his side of the story.

According to Thinking Pinoy, the fact remains that he was sorely disappointed at the DFA for failing to clarify the issue in a timely manner. He explained that on April 19, at around 3:00 PM, OUMWA Executive Director Raul Dado uploaded the Kuwait rescue video on his personal Facebook account and the video was publicly viewable.

The DFA also sent copies of the controversial video to the DFA viber group, for use by reporters. A few minutes later, DFA Acting Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy Elmer Cato shared the video with TP's personal FB account, RJ Nieto who was taagged in.

TP noted further that because of the fact that he has more than a million highly engaged followers on FB, he regularly receive requests to share content from various government agencies, such as DPWH, BCDA, etc., and it's for free. Being a senior diplomat, TP trusted Dir. Dado and Asec. Catol's collective decision to share the content means that the video is acceptable for public consumption.

However, it turns out that the Kuwaiti Government is unhappy with Dado's decision to release the video. In response, Director Dado quickly deactivated his Facebook account, leaving TP's upload as one of the earliest versions available online. Moreover, it is unfortunate that DFA Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano did not take any effort in clarifying RJ Nieto's involvement in the issue.

Here's the Complete Explanation of Thinking Pinoy:

ON NPR, DFA, AND THE KUWAIT RESCUE VIDEO

NPR erroneously reported in "Viral 'Rescue' Videos Ignite Dispute Between Philippines And Kuwait" that I supposedly said "Legal action shall follow" in reference to the Kuwait Rescue Video. I have never said or written such, and NPR's Colin Dwyer never interviewed me.

The fact remains, however, that I am sorely disappointed at the Department of Foreign Affairs Republic of the Philippines, for failing to clarify the issue in a timely manner.

On April 19 at around 3 PM, OUMWA Executive Director Raul Dado uploaded the Kuwait rescue video on his personal Facebook account. The video is publicly viewable.

The DFA also sent copies of the video to the DFA beat viber group, for use by reporters.

A few minutes later, DFA Acting Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy Elmer Cato shared the video with my personal Facebook account RJ Nieto tagged in it.

Because I have over a million highly-engaged followers, I regularly receive requests to share content from various government agencies, such as DPWH, BCDA, etc.

Being senior diplomats, I trusted that Dir. Dado and Asec. Cato's collective decision to share the content means that the video is acceptable for public consumption.

I am not a part of the DFA and my sharing of their content was actually done as a favor for them. The video is authentic because Dado uploaded it, and the content falls squarely within public interest, I reposted it.

However, it turns out that the Kuwaiti Government is unhappy with Dado's decision to release the video. In response, Director Dado quickly deactivated his Facebook account, leaving my upload as one of the earliest versions available online.

Moreover, it is unfortunate that DFA Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano did not take any effort in clarifying my involvement in the issue. I cannot be held accountable for the decision to release the video, a decision that I did not make.

I thoroughly despise finger pointing. But then, if I should be blamed for the viral video, does that mean I should not share anything anymore for fear that it might cause the same results? That will not work.

The issue here is not in the uploading. Instead, it is in the decision of DFA personnel to release the video to the public, and I hope that the DFA personnel involved will own up to their mistake and not let private individuals -- who help them for free -- suffer on their behalf.
