Must Watch: Thinking Pinoy Explains the Tax Evasion Case of Rappler in Relation to Press Freedom (Video)

One of the country's most popular blogger with more than 1 million followers on social media, Thinking Pinoy or RJ Nieto in real life explains the controversial tax evasion case of Rappler and its relations to Press Freedom.

According to Thinking Pinoy, Maria Ressa and Rappler should explain their side and not use the issue on press freedom as a license to evade taxes. He also noted that it is really hard for Ressa and Rappler to evade the case filed by the BIR.

TP also explains Rappler's case by saying that proceeds from sales of PDRs appear to be classified as income, in turn, are taxable, and Rappler reportedly didn't pay taxes on the almost P200 million it earned from the sale of Omidyar Network PDRs.

When surcharges and penalties will be added to the alleged tax evasion case of Rappler, the BIR said Rappler now owes the government around P133-Million.

Here's the Complete Statement of Thinking Pinoy:

PRESS FREEDOM A LICENSE TO EVADE TAXES?

So how will Maria Ressa B.S. her way through this one?

Proceeds from sales of PDRs appear to be classified as income that, in turn, are taxable, and Rappler reportedly didn't pay taxes on the almost-P200 m it earned from the sale of Omidyar Network PDRs.

Adding surcharges and penalties, the Bureau of Internal Revenue Philippines said Rappler now owes the government around P133 million.

I predict that Ressa and her minions call this an attack on Press Freedom, but is Press Freedom a license to evade taxes?
