Pres. Rody Duterte Confirms He Banned Pia Ranada from Entering Malacañang

The tough-talking President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte confirmed that he himself banned Rappler reporter Pia Ranada from entering Malacañang. Due to the reported banned of Pia Ranada from Malacañang, some politicians and the mainstream media cried foul but the President already made up his mind.

According to Jhopee Jhopee Avanceña, the head of Malacañang's Internal House Affairs Office, told Ranad through a text message that she is now banned inside Malacañang as ordered by Pres. Duterte.

"He said you are not allowed inside. That's it. Not only today," Avanceña's message read.

Rappler's Pia Ranada who is now banned from entering the Palace is based on the instruction from the President reportedly came on Monday night.

A member of the Presidential Security Group told Ranada she was allowed to go inside the New Executive Building compound but not at the Palace.

Malacañang Palace on Tuesday briefly barred Rappler reporter Pia Ranada from entering the New Executive Building where the press office is located, citing orders from higher ups, but it was later clarified that Ranada was banned only in some areas of the Palace and not at the NEB.

Spox Harry Roque also noted that he was just relaying the “verbal statement” of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, which states that Rappler was still allowed to cover President Rodrigo Duterte and Malacañang pending resolution of the online news site’s appeal on the government’s decision to revoke its incorporation papers.
