Hong Kong Businessmen Visits the Philippines to Explore Trade & Investment Opportunities

The former British colony of Hong Kong is considered as one of the most prosperous Chinese territory and due to their thriving businesses, some business groups visited the Philippines for a possible investment opportunities as a sign of confidence to the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte.


An 11-man business delegation from Hong Kong visited the country to explore trade and investment opportunities. According to the Philippine Board of Investments (BOI) the visiting businessmen from Hong Kong eye opportunities in sectors of agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and infrastructure.

Leading the Hong Kong delegation who visited the Philippines is no other than Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Executive Director Margaret Fong.

During the business mission in the Philippines, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provided information to the delegation on the business environment in the Philippines.



The Philippines and Hong Kong can further strengthen economic ties through the recently signed ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trrade Agreement (AHKFTA). Prior to the meeting between the BOI and the Hong Kong delegation, the businessmen met with officials of Export Marketing Bureau and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

The BOI also noted that Hong Kong remains one of the strongest investment sources for the Philippines this year 2017. Investment inflows from Hong Kong investors in January to September 2017 surged 107.1 percent to PHP1.52 billion from PHP732.2 million investments in the same period last year.
