The Department of Justice through Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday to investigate the allegations of Patricia Cruz-Bautista, wife of Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista that he amassed nearly P1 billion in ill-gotten wealth.

The NBI was asked by Justice Secretary Aguirre under Department Order 517, to investigate and build a case on he allegations of Patricia Paz Bautista as contained in a 10-page affidavit, which she executed before the NBI on August 1, 2017.

The wife of the Comelec Chairman accused Commissioner Bautista of failing to disclose "pertinent information" in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) during the year 2016.

Based upon the Department Order released by DOJ, they wanted to know, through the NBI, if Bautista violated the Anti-Money Laundering Act and other related laws.

Mrs. Patricia "Tisha" Bautista met first with Pres. Rody Duterte in Malacañang last July 26 to expose the bank deposits and properties of her husband. Pres. Duterte also called the Comelec chairman to the Palace on the same day.

Based on the 2016 SALN of Chairman Bautista he had a net worth of P176.3 million. He has total assets of P241.8 million broken down into P158.5 million worth of real properties and P83.3-million worth of personal properties. Bautista has P65.5 million in liabilities.
