BOC Releases List of Item Limits for All OFW's Balikbayan Boxes

The Bureau of Customs which is now under the leadership of former rebel soldier, Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon released the list of item limits for all Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who wanted to send their Balikbayan boxes to their families in the Philippines.

Under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte he made sure that he will fulfill his promise to all OFWs that they will no longer experience the hardships they suffered during the previous administration. 

Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) mandates that sending of balikbayan boxes by Qualified Filipinos While Abroad (QFWA) to their families and relatives is exempt from payment of duties and taxes up to three (3) times and not exceeding P150,000 in a calendar year. 

The BOC also noted that the following items can be purchased abroad and bring these items into the country without clearance from FDA and DOH, only if they are (1) for personal use and (2) within the allowed quantity:

Shampoo 2 Kilograms
Lotion 2 Kilograms
Bar Soap 2 Kilograms
Assorted Cosmetics 1 Kilogram
Toys 10 Pieces
Childcare Articles 5 Kilograms
Household Hazardous Substance 5 Kilograms

According to the Bureau of Customs all the above-mentioned items may be brought into the country through passenger baggage, balikbayan boxes, or parcels sent thru mail or delivery services.

The BOC also warned that items with quantity beyond the specified limits will be seized and forfeited in favor of the government. Those within the specified limt shall be allowed without FDA-DOH clearance subject to payment of customs duties, when necessary.
