President Rody Duterte continue his fight against illegal drugs but at the same time he also make sure that recovery efforts will be put in place. A large-scale drug rehabilitation center will soon rise inside a military camp in the island province of Bohol.
According to Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, the Department of Health recently forged an agreement with a company for the construction of the drug rehab facility to treat drug dependents in the province of Bohol as well as in nearby Cebu and Siquijor provinces.
In a press briefing held in Malacanang, Sec. Abella was quoted as saying "The Department of Health signed the Memorandum of Agreement yesterday January 4, 2017 with ARCHIGLOBAL to build the next Mega Drug Rehab Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center inside the military camp in Carmen, Bohol," Sec. Abella said.
In terms of funding the national government did not disclose anything except for the lot where the rehab center will be built. The national government revealed already that business magnates have offered billions of pesos for the establishments of drug treatment facilities nationwide.
Some of the companies who are willing to provide monetary assistance for the drug rehab centers includes San Miguel Corp., with chairman Ramon Ang already committed P1-billion, MegaWorld offered P1.4 billion, while DMCI and Ayala have promised to extend financial support to the Duterte admin's war on drugs as well as in terms of rehabilitation.
The multi-million Bohol Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (BDAT-RC)will be constructed in the island town of Pres. Garcia (formerly Pitogo) where a 2,667 square meter floor area will accommodate 200 patients at the start of its operations.
Malacañang earlier said the government intends to build more drug treatment facilities this year amid the rising number of drug dependents surrendering to authorities.
There were a total number of 1,007,153 drug surrenderers from July 1 to December 31, 2016.
