A veteran national paper columnist admired President Rody Duterte's decision to grant the long overdue SSS pension increase despite the refusals of his economic managers who fears of bankruptcy but the President just simply showcased where his heart lies as he approved the increase.
According to Jojo Robles during the Cabinet Meeting on Monday, Pres. Duterte tried to weigh his decision about the controversial SSS pension increase but in the end he decided to favor the poor pensioners.
Some members of the elite groups in the Philippines might not be in favor of Pres. Duterte's war on drugs and his constant attacks against the oligarchs but this time around most Filipino netizens experienced how the former Davao City Mayor loves the poor.
Aside from approving the SSS pension hike, the President also approved a 1.5 percent contribution rate hike in May 2017 and a monthly salary increase to 20,000 from 16,000.
During the Cabinet meeting, President Duterte talked with his economic managers and the proponents of the SSS pension increase as Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez III, Budget Sec. Benjamin Diokno, and Socieconomic Planning Sec. Ernesto Pernia submitted a position paper opposing the hike as it would bankrupt the fund but the President decided to showcase where his heart lies.
