DENR Sec. Gina Lopez OrdersSuspension of CMDC in Surigao

One of the toughest Cabinet Members under the Duterte administration, Sec. Regina "Gina" Lopez of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) orders suspension of Surigao del Norte mining firm CMDC.

According to Sec. Lopez operations of the Claver Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) in Surigao del Norte have been suspended.

The announcement of the DENR Secretary was released during the Mindano Environmental Forum in Ateneo de Davao University.

Sec. Gina Lopez was quoted as saying on Thursday that "Today we are suspending Claver Mineral in Surigao del Norte. We are also looking into and auditing three more mining groups, these are Greenstone, Taganito and SRMI. We will audit all the mines in Mindanao, we will finish this by next week," Lopez said.

The mining company ordered suspended by DENR, the CMDC is operating in Barangay Cagdianao, Claver town in Surigao del Norte. The company was already suspended way back July 18, 2012 while it was still operated by Shenzou Mining Group Corp., because of excessive siltations in the area.

Based upon the details gathered by, last September 17, 2015, one of Mindanao's well-known politician, Rep. Prospero Pichay, Jr., acquired 60% of the corporation and was elected President of the Board of Directors. The details of Rep. Pichay's involvement is based on the official website of CMDC.
