Rain Or Shine looks to replace Alex McLean with Devon Chism as import after a bad start

Rain Or Shine is not in a familiar situation as it struggled to start the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup with a 1-3 win-loss record.

With the early struggle, the Elasto Painters is looking to tap former Barako Bull prospect Devon Wayne Chism in its bid to revive its campaign in the short elimination round tournament. This is only a single-round elimination.

Chism is no stranger to Filipino fans after he was initially tapped by Barako Bull as their import and even played one tune-up game with the Energy.

He was ultimately being dropped in favor of Joshua Dollard when Barako Bull learned that he did not get his release from his Hungarian ballclub.

Bringing in Chism

Rain or Shine is now looking to take a shot at bringing in the wide-bodied player listed at 6-9, hopefully by negotiating a buyout with Chism's team Kaposvari in the Hungarian league.

“Di pa naman sigurado kasi di pa nagagawa yung ticket,” said Rain or Shine team manager Bhoy Lapid.

“Pero gumagalaw na rin. Sa ngayon 50-50 (chance) pa pero nasa No. 1 namin siya (Chism) sa listahan.”

Chism was not selected in the 2010 NBA Draft, but received summer league invitations from the New Jersey Nets and Sacramento Kings. He, however, didn't made it to the final cut.

He then played for Antalya BSB in Turkey but was released in December 2010.

Chism later saw action for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA D-League and lastly led Division 1 team Kaposvari in the Hungary league with his 20.7 points per game average, along with 10.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 16 games.

Should the negotiation fall off, Lapid said they are looking at the possibility of bringing back Duke Crews, the team’s import during the 2011-12 Commissioner’s Cup; Taj Gray, a French and Spanish League veteran; and Jake O’Brien, a former Boston University standout.

The Elasto Painters dropped to 1-3 win-loss for eighth spot in the standings on Saturday after bowing to San Mig, 68-91, in their first meeting since the heated Philippine Cup Finals won by the Mixers.

McLean, the 6-8 former Liberty Flames forward, is averaging 22.7 points and 15.2 rebounds in 35 minutes for the Elasto Painters this conference. But he was surprisingly benched in the entire fourth period on Saturday by a clearly frustrated coach Yeng Guiao.

And it appeared that Guiao had seen enough of him and it seems that he is on the way out.

Rain or Shine will return to action on Wednesday against Meralco.
