Netizen Expose the Possible Salary of Sen. Gordon as Red Cross Chairman

A concerned netizen and prominent supporter of Pres. Rody Duterte on social media made an interesting expose about the possible salary of Sen. Richard Gordon, the chairman of the Philippine Red Cross as the country's top officials of the said non-profit organization.

Before exposing the possible salary of Sen. Gordon, the concerned netizen, Raymon Satnamul made some backgrounder regarding the feud involving Pres. Rody Duterte and Sen. Dick Gordon. According to Satnamul the feud between Duterte and Gordon is just like a chess fight between the grandmaster and the greenhorn.

Pres. Rody Duterte challenged Sen. Gordon earlier to follow the law and present the financial statements of Red Cross to him so that it can be audited by his office because it is clearly stated in the provision provided by the Red Cross as government partners.

Pres. Duterte cited RA No.10072 under Section 5(d) "the Philippine Red Cross shall be allotted by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office at least one (1) lottery draw yearly for the support of its disaster relief operations in addition to its existing lottery draws for the Blood Program."

Although the Filipino people don't have any idea with regards to the correct amount of money donated by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes but based on the huge amount of money the agency gives away, the Philippine Red Cross could surely got the same amount.

THE GRANDMASTER AND THE GREENHORN

The feud between President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Senator Richard Gordon has suddenly turned into an ugly twist and reminiscent of a classic chess match :

“Ito naman si Gordon, malalim itong away namin. Talagang mag-away kami ng buang na ‘to. In the coming days, I will write you a letter to open up your records because kung ayaw mo, mapipilitan akong to totally disassociate with you. I will stop the national government from having financial transactions with you in any manner. Wala akong pakialam," the President said in his opening salvo.

The question is what's this money all about and how big is the amount?

According to Republic Act No. 10072 under Section 5(d) "the Philippine Red Cross shall be allotted by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office at least one (1) lottery draw yearly for the support of its disaster relief operations in addition to its existing lottery draws for the Blood Program."

How much? For example, the Ultra Lotto 6/58 minimum jackpot prize is pegged at ₱50M but on October 14, 2018, two bettors from Albay and Samar split the ₱1,180,622,508 jackpot, the largest winning prize in Philippine history.

We do not know the exact amount the PCSO has donated to the Red Cross over the years that is why the President is demanding that the PRC must submit an annual report to the President because so far he has not received one.

“Wala akong natanggap. Anim na taon na ako, Senator Gordon. Nasaan na ang report?” the President asked.

But that is just the 'tip of the iceberg' when it comes to the perks of being a Red Cross Chairman.

In Section 7(2e) of the same Republic Act, it provides that "the members of the Board of Governors, as well as the officers, shall serve WITHOUT compensation. The compensation of the paid staff of the Philippine Red Cross shall be determined by the Board of Governors upon the recommendation of the Secretary General."

Again, we don't have any idea if this provision of the law is being religiously followed but in my own humble opinion - tell it to the Marines! 'Coz in other countries the salary of a Chairman of the Red Cross would run into millions.

For example, in April 2018 a woman by the name of Marsha Evans went viral on social media when she exposed that as the President and CEO of the American Red Cross in 2002, her alleged annual salary was $675,000. Evans left the nonprofit organization in 2005. Gail McGovern is the Red Cross’ current CEO. She’s led the nonprofit since 2008 and her annual salary in 2018 was $694,000. Convert that into pesos...that's a staggering P33M annual income.

So, the next move is now in the hands of Dick Gordon. The clock is ticking and the 'grandmaster of Philippine politics' is waiting. One false move, a 'checkmate' is inevitable for the 'greenhorn'.
