DITO Telecom Has Enough Resources to Challenge Globe Telecom, PLDT and Smart

DITO Telecommunity, the third telco in the country has "enough" resources to fund its challenge to PLDT Incorporated operator of Smart Telecom and Globe Telecom after they secured fresh funding from Bank of China to cover their requirements in its first year of operations.



The highly anticipated roll-out of the third telecommunications company in the Philippines is meet with criticisms and negative speculations among critics of the administration but DITO Telecommunity Corporation assured internet users that they could compete against the duopoly of Globe and PLDT-Smart connections.



According to DITO Telecom's spokesman, Atty. Adel Tamano, the consortium of Dennis Uy's Udenna Corporation, Chelsea Logistics and state-run China Telecom, drew $500 million (P25.3 billion) from its loan facility with Chinese lender, seeking to build up to 1,600 towers and rooftop facilities.

DITO is confident that it can build around 5,000 towers and as of August, the company so far constructed 600 towers nationwide.

In an interview with the media, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Tamano was quoted as saying "There are rumors that we don't have resources for the rollout. Whe have drawn down $500 million (P25.3 billion) from its loan facility with the Chinese lender" Tamano said.



The company also partnered with Chavit Singson's LCS Group for their common tower agreement which will surely boosts the company's capacity to improve their connection coverage especially in Northern Luzon.

DITO Telecom already made its first local and international call last May 2020 and ensured that all systems are in place as confirmed by Chief Technology Officer Gen. Rodolfo Santiago.

The commercial and official launch of DITO Telecom will be on March 2021. There's also some possibility that the on-boarding of subscribers and the possibility of launching earlier than March but it depends on the results of pre-commercial tests this month of September.

DITO Telecommunity received its license to operate as the country's third telecommunications provider in July 2019. No less than Pres. Duterte issued the license and other pertaining documents to DITO Telecom.
